In a poignant blend of art and advocacy, Change the Ref delivers a powerful narrative that intertwines the devastating realities of gun violence and pediatric cancer. Inspired by sobering statistics from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), which designate firearms as the primary cause of child and teen deaths, the film serves as both a mirror reflecting societal woes and a rallying cry for change.

Thanks to a 2-year study in partnership with Grey, Harvard Medical School & Massachusetts General Hospital, the sound of cancer cells dying was captured for the first time in human history. A campaign for Randox Laboratories that features the "STI Detection Unit" – a group of trained canines able to detect sexually transmitted infections (or STDs) in members of the public.

Created to promote Randox’s Confidante, a home STI test kit, the campaign centres on ‘Sniffers’, a deadpan YouTube mockumentary which shows the dogs in training, and then outing unsuspecting punters on a night out. The light-hearted strategy, which is designed to prompt 25-34 year olds to think about their sexual health and get tested, makes extensive use of social media.

After the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in 2018, Manuel and Patricia Oliver launched Change the Ref in memory of their son Joaquin and his 16 peers that senselessly lost their lives. Change The Ref (CTR), was formed to empower our Future Leaders, giving young people the tools they need to be empowered to make changes to critical issues that affect our nation, through education, conversation, and activism.

With the 2020 election looming, Change the Ref has launched an initiative to encourage young people to get out the vote. “The Unfinished Votes” leverages AI technology to bring Joaquin back to life digitally to ask people to “finish” the vote he was never able to cast, as this would have marked Joaquin’s first vote in a presidential election. In the launch film for the campaign, Manuel and Patricia, alongside their late son, recruit voters to replace the ballots of gun violence victims.

The pregnancy journey of Black women is marked by persistent challenges and systemic barriers, creating a nearly impossible journey for Black mothers seeking safe and equitable childbirth experiences.

This ADHD treatment had a unique formulation that produces a steady release throughout the day. This means the symptoms of ADHD are more steadily controlled.

THE IDEA

To demonstrate the ups and downs of living with ADHD, we created rollercoaster rides that highlight the chaos of the condition. Luckily, thanks to the treatment, the rides are now a thing of the past.

THE CRAFT

We partnered with Vault 49 in New York – a specialist 
CGI illustration company to bring the idea to life. The illustration shows the striking and derelict nature 
of a ride that has been put out of service.

With alopecia areata you lose more than just your hair.

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder that causes severe and unpredictable hair loss. But the burden goes beyond hair - alopecia can impact a person’s sense of identity, causing insecurity, anxiety and depression. Without effective treatment options most people cover up not only their condition, but the psychological toll it has on them.

Hair figures were created in CGI and placed in recognizable settings for patients, stark symbols of the sense of self that is lost to this disease.

Patient poetry was crafted to give a voice to patient struggles that often go unseen. The typography of the poem, crafted out of hair and developed in a handwritten font dramatize the personal nature of hair loss and the connections we all have to our hair.

We gave a voice to a patient experience that often goes unheard, offering a raw glimpse behind their hair and into their hearts. In doing so we elevated the critical role hair plays in our lives, and reinforced the life-changing impact treatment with Olumiant can make.

THE IDEA

Zubsolv® is a tablet that helps patients gradually regain control over their opioid addiction. We wanted to show how this small tablet can make a big difference in helping patients tame their proverbial dragon.

THE CRAFT

We worked with world-renowned miniature sculptor Salavat Fidai to bring the idea to life. Using a needle, he carved into the 7mm2 tablets, showing that the smallest actions can have the biggest outcomes.

In rural Africa you are statistically more likely to see an endangered animal than your are to see a doctor. We worked with a statistician to bring this shocking insight to life, and created a recruitment campaign (print and radio) that highlighted the unexpected collection of rare animals you’re more likely to encounter…

Africa has a severe shortage of doctors and other healthcare professionals. So Africa Health Placements sent a direct mail containing a pressure activated device to recruit foreign doctors to work in Africa. Once opened, a message prompts doctors to place their stethoscope on the device, this activates a pre-recorded MP3 that speaks directly to them. The audio for the ad was recorded at a low level so that it was only audible through a stethoscope. Turning something that every doctor possesses into an advertising medium to create the world's first stethoscope audio ad.

THE CHALLENGE

Healthcare at Home are market leaders in providing clinical care for patients in their own home. But in 2014, operational issues impacted performance, damaging the brand's reputation.

THE SOLUTION

Healthcare at Home needed to rebuild trust in their service. So we repositioned the brand around a simple insight that could speak to their diverse audience: When sometthing happens, when you're at your most vulnerable, your first instinct is to get back home.

THE RESULTS

The resulting communication and brand identity transformed the feel of the company. Between 2014 and 2016, trust in Healthcare at Home rose from 46% to 76%, those willing to recommend the company jumped from 17% to 63%, and online customer engagement and brand recall doubled. People are now uniting behind a brand they feel truly represents what it means to provide the care people need, in the place they most want to be: home.

THE INSIGHT

We live in a society split by bitter divisions that seem to grow worse by the day. While the specific disagreements may vary, every country on earth now seems to be split into opposing groups that can barely tolerate each other.

However, despite these fundamental, ideological, and deeply personal divisions, a universal commonality exists amongst all people with multiple myeloma—the BCMA protein target.

THE IDEA

That’s why the BCMA protein target is so exciting. Universally found in multiple myeloma patients, it is a common source of hope to those otherwise divided. And while it may not repair the cultural psyche, it’s a powerful reminder that deep down we are more similar than it may seem.

The United by BCMA campaign was created for hematologist-oncologists and medical oncologists who treat patients with multiple myeloma. Because no cure exists for multiple myeloma, physicians take an active interest in work that promotes new approaches to treating the disease, as every patient will require multiple therapeutic options.

Atopic Dermatitis can take everything from patients. It can rob them of opportunities, moments and feelings. It steals days. Days and days and days of their lives.

To launch the first ever Atopic Dermatitis Day we created a film which empathized with patients, whilst telling them that this is one day that can’t be taken from them.

We hear a woman telling the story of an unforgettable girls holiday from the 90’s, the off the cuff moments that helped forge a lifetime friendship. We reveal that rather than recollecting her own memories, it’s yet another time that Atopic Dermatitis has taken from her.

To raise further awareness for those living with the disease, the campaign will be supported by a donation-based mechanism that will see 1 US Dollar donated to International Alliance of Dermatology Patient Organisation for every social media share.

‘The smallest blemish can ruin everything'.

THE IDEA

Triton Leo in South Africa asked us to create a print campaign for Q20 - A multi-purpose lubricant (similar to WD40). We came up with the idea to create hinges in the shapes of the sounds that they make when they rust - a squeaking mouse; a honking donkey; and a quacking duck.

A little Q20 lubricant and those hinges will do their work without a peep!
